Mirror photo booth: what it does and who it is worth it for

A mirror photo booth is a photo booth where guests stand in front of a full-length mirror that displays instructions and animations and takes the photo by touch. Our Photobooth Mirror from Greiz costs €6,300 (as of October 2026, incl. VAT), measures 185 × 80 × 70 cm and weighs 48 kg; the camera height is 165 cm. This guide explains the technology, compares the mirror booth with a classic booth and names the uses for which the higher price is worthwhile.

How does a mirror photo booth work?

Behind a pane of Pilkington mirror glass sits a capacitive 10-point touchscreen with 23.6 inches and 1920 × 1080 pixels. At rest, guests only see their reflection; as soon as someone touches the mirror, the software shows animated prompts, countdown and preview. Above the screen sits the DSLR with a programmable LED ring, surrounded by a ring light that can be dimmed by touch. Inside the housing are an i5 mini PC, stereo speakers for voice prompts and sound effects, and a network port for online sharing. The mirror element tilts, and the base stands on four castors.

The software is the same as in our other systems: dslrBooth Professional, here with the mirror booth animations. Layouts, QR-code sharing, video booth and AI background removal are therefore available too, see the software page.

The mirror booth is a piece of furniture that makes an impression in a ballroom or hotel foyer. The Ready is the tool for rental operators who drive to several events a week in a small car.

Who is the mirror booth worth it for?

  • Weddings and galas: guests see themselves full length, evening wear comes into its own. Rental operators generally achieve higher rental prices with the Mirror than with a classic booth, see Photo booths for rental businesses.
  • Hotels and event venues: the mirror booth can be moved between rooms on its castors and fits visually into upmarket surroundings, see Photo booths for hotels and venues.
  • Brand events: the mirror frame and start animations can be branded; the staging attracts attention.
  • Photographers who need a premium offer alongside the classic photo booth package.

The Mirror is less suitable for shipping rental, narrow stairwells and jobs where one person has to transport the booth alone in a small car. For those there are the Photobooth Selphy and the Ready.

Worked example: when is the Mirror paid for?

Example calculation with assumptions, not an offer: a Mirror with EOS 2000D camera (+€500), studio flash (+€350) and DNP DS620 printer (+€1,590) costs €8,740. At an assumed rental price of €750 per wedding, that is twelve bookings. Rental operators with 20 weddings in a season have earned back the purchase in the first year, with media costs of around 17 cents per photo. The full cost overview of all systems is in the guide How much does a photo booth cost?.

What needs considering for transport and set-up?

The Mirror is delivered in two flight cases, which are included in the price. Transport requires an estate car or van and a level route at the venue; the castors on the base make moving it around the hall easy. Set-up consists of joining base and mirror element, connecting power and printer, and aligning the tilting mirror. The housing is metal and fully powder-coated; the main switch is on the back.

Which software functions do guests use at the mirror?

  • Animated start screens and voice instructions that explain the procedure.
  • Countdown and preview directly in the mirror.
  • Stickers on the photo by finger touch (sticker function of the software).
  • Printing on the connected printer and sharing via QR code, e-mail or AirDrop.
  • Video booth, GIF and boomerang for social networks.

Which flash and camera settings make sense at the mirror is answered in the help centre under the Photobooth Mirror category.

How does a shot at the mirror work?

The guest steps in front of the mirror and at first sees only their reflection with a short prompt. A touch starts the animation: the mirror explains the procedure by voice prompt and graphics, shows the countdown, and the LED ring around the lens draws the eye to the camera. After the flash the photo appears in the mirror, the guest chooses print or share, and a few seconds later the print lies in the connected printer. The whole process runs unattended; rental operators place the Mirror at the edge of the hall, connect power and occasionally check the media supply.

Which lighting does the Mirror need?

Because the mirror reflects ambient light, it should not stand directly opposite windows or strong spotlights. The dimmable ring-light frame and the optional studio flash with beauty dish light the guests; the background is created with a backdrop system or a decorated wall. For weddings a bright, plain backdrop at a distance of about two metres has proven itself so that groups of six are also rendered sharply.

Also plan a free area of about two by three metres in front of the mirror at the venue so that groups of guests have room and the flash is not reflected by walls. A power socket within reach of the location is enough; printer and computer are powered via the booth.

Conclusion

The mirror booth is the right choice when staging and full-length shots count and transport in a larger vehicle is not a problem. For rental operators it is a premium product alongside the classic booth, for hotels and venues a piece of furniture with lasting value. The photo booth comparison gives an overview of all systems, and the enquiry form a quotation with your configuration.
