A photo booth costs between €2,190 for a housing without electronics and €7,690 for a premium system, plus camera, printer and accessories (as of October 2026). With an investment of this size it is worth clarifying twelve questions before ordering. The checklist comes from more than ten years of our own rental business and from conversations with more than 1,000 customers across Europe; it applies to any manufacturer, the example figures come from our systems.
1. What will you use the photo booth for?
Rental with weekly events, wedding photography as an add-on, trade fairs and corporate events, permanent installation in a hotel or shipping to customers: each use calls for a different system. For mobile rental operators the Photobooth Ready at 22 kg is the benchmark, for trade fairs the Profy with advertising panels, for shipping the Selphy. The audience pages, for example Photo booths for rental businesses, summarise the recommendations.
2. How often will the booth be used per year?
Below five events a year renting is cheaper; from about seven to eleven events the purchase of a Ready has paid for itself. The sums are in the guide Rent or buy a photo booth.
3. What is included in the price?
Ask about the scope of delivery: housing, computer, screen, software, camera, flash, printer, tripod, case. “From” prices often refer only to the housing. With us the scope of delivery is on every product page; camera (+€500/600), flash (+€350) and printer (+€1,199 to €1,590) are configurator options, see How much does a photo booth cost?.
4. Which camera and which light?
DSLR with studio flash for print quality, webcam with LED light for simplicity. Check whether an existing camera can be reused: Supported cameras. Background in the guide DSLR or webcam.
5. Which printer and what do the media cost?
Dye-sublimation printers with known media costs: DNP DS620 (around 17 cents per photo), Citizen CX2 (19 cents), Sinfonia CS2 (22 cents). Clarify whether the printer fits inside the housing or whether a kiosk is needed, see Which photo printer?.
6. Which software, which licence?
Ask about the licensing model: one-off, subscription or licence with an update period. Our complete systems include dslrBooth Professional with a permanent licence and updates in the first year. Check whether QR-code sharing, green screen, video and guest control are included, see the software page.
7. What is the housing made of?
Powder-coated aluminium withstands transport; wood and plastic show damage sooner. Ask about weight and dimensions: the Ready measures 130 × 50 × 50 cm, the Mirror 185 × 80 × 70 cm at 48 kg. Details in the guide Aluminium vs. wood and plastic.
8. How is the booth transported and set up?
Does the booth fit into your vehicle? Can one person set it up alone? Is there a case? One person sets up the Ready in under ten minutes and it fits into a small car; the Mirror needs an estate car and is delivered in two included flight cases.
9. Can the booth be branded and expanded?
Digital templates for wrapping, interchangeable frames, retrofitting of LED ring, buzzer or base cabinet: check whether the manufacturer supplies spare parts and upgrades for older models. Our templates are in the FAQ branding templates.
10. What delivery time and which payment methods?
Our booths without branding ship in 5 to 10 working days, accessories in 1 to 3 working days; with branding or custom RAL colour by arrangement. Payment by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, PayPal including instalments (according to PayPal €99 to €10,000, 3 to 24 months, subject to credit check) or prepayment, see payment methods. Business customers in the EU with a valid VAT ID and customers in Switzerland order net of VAT.
11. Which warranty, which support?
The statutory warranty is two years from delivery. Also ask about reachable support in your language, manuals and a help centre. Our assembly guides are available as PDFs under Downloads, answers to technical questions in the help centre; by phone you reach us on +49 3661 4555881.
12. What applies to withdrawal and custom-made items?
Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal; for custom-made items such as a RAL colour or individual wrap it is excluded, which the configurator points out. Business customers have no right of withdrawal. Also clarify return costs for freight-forwarded goods. The details are in our notice of withdrawal.
How do you use the checklist?
Go through the twelve questions with every quotation you compare and note the answers in a table. For most photo booths on the market, quotations lack weight, media costs and licensing model; ask specifically. Convert every quotation into a total price for the equipment you actually need, and only then compare. A “from” price without camera, flash and printer says little about the investment.
What do buyers ask us most often?
Three questions have been particularly frequent in the enquiries of recent years: whether an existing camera can be reused (usually yes, see the camera list), whether the booth runs unattended (yes, start screen and voice prompts explain the procedure) and how long delivery takes (5 to 10 working days without branding). All three answers are also in the help centre so that you can check them before buying.
If you are unsure which questions matter most for your use, start with questions 1, 2 and 3: intended use, frequency and scope of delivery decide around three quarters of the total cost. The remaining nine questions refine the choice but rarely change the system.
The twelve questions as a short list
- Intended use and target group
- Frequency of use per year
- Scope of delivery behind the price
- Camera and light
- Printer and media costs
- Software and licensing model
- Material and weight
- Transport and set-up
- Branding and expandability
- Delivery time and payment
- Warranty and support
- Withdrawal and custom-made items
Once you have the twelve answers together, the photo booth comparison shows the right system. For a personal recommendation with a quotation use the enquiry form; we reply with a configuration and a price, not with a sales pitch.
